Prophecy, What is It?
Prophecy is the predictions of events in the future. True prophecy is the prediction of events in the future that actually come true. True prophecy only comes from the true God:
9 Remember the former things of olam: for I am GOD, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: 11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executes my counsel from a far country: yes, I have spoken it [perfect verb] I will also bring it to pass [imperf verb] yes, I have made it [perf] I will also do it [imperf] (Isa 46:9-11)
How do we tell a true prophet from a false prophet:
17 And the BeComingOne said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. 18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto you, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. 19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not listen unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. 20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. 21 And if you say in your heart, How shall we know the word which the BeComingOne has not spoken? 22 When a prophet speaks in the name of the BeComingOne, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the BeComingOne has not spoken, but the prophet has spoken it presumptuously: you shall not be afraid of him. (Deut 18:20-22)
What Jesus Christ said about the end-time Prophecy:
19 I tell you it now before it happens, that when it happens, you may believe that I am [He] 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, He who receives all send receives me; and he that receives me receives him who has sent me. (John 13:9-10)
The Spirit of Truth will Announce What is Coming:
13 But when he is come, the Spirit of truth, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but whatsoever he shall hear he shall speak; and he will announce to you what is coming. 14 He shall glorify me, for he shall receive of mine and shall announce it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are mine; on account of this I have said that he receives of mine and shall announce it to you. (John 16:13-15)
Who were some of the prophets
It is God who knows the future and it is He who announces it through his prophets. Moses, Daniel and Jesus are a few of the best known prophets. But the Bible calls many others prophets.:
Jesus Christ (Deut 18:15-19; John 6:14), Aaron (Ex 7:1), Abraham (Gen 20:7), Amos, Daniel, David, Elijah, Elisha, Ezekiel, Habakkuk, Haggai, Hosea, Isaiah, Jehu, Jeremiah, Joel,Joshua, Jonah, Malachi, Micah, Moses (Deut 34:10), Paul (Acts 13:9-11; 27:10), Samuel, Zechariah, and many others as listed in Hebert Lockyer, All the Messianic Prophecies of the Bible, pages 13-15.
There were also many false prophets, the most famous will be the Beast- man of Daniel and Revelation, who is also called the anti-Christ. The Antichrist, or anti-Christ, is a person prophesied by the Bible to oppose Christ and substitute himself in Christ's place before the Second Coming. Paul called him the man of sin :
2 Thes 2:1-5. Now we beg you, brethren, regarding the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, 2 that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let not any one deceive you in any manner, because [it will not be] unless the apostasy [defection] first comes, and the lawless one has been revealed, the son of destruction; 4 who opposes and exalts himself on high against all called God, or object of veneration; so that he himself sits down in the temple of the God, showing himself that he is God. 5 Do you not remember, being yet with you, I said these things to you?

Those of the world said: "We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this man's [Christ's] blood upon us." But Peter and the apostles answered: "We must obey God rather than men." (Acts 5:28-29)
"All silencing of discussion is an assumption of infallibility ... But the peculiar evil of silencing the expression of opinion is, that it is robbing the human race ... If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth; if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error."
